Milky Planet JSK & KC Unboxing

About a week ago, I was scrolling on LaceMarket, when a listing too good to be true came up. It was Milky★Planet, the 2024 Ribbon JSK release in yellow, and it had been modified to fit larger bodies.

I couldn't believe it; I had given up years ago on finding this print or my other dream dresses (such as Dream Sky or Sugary Carnival) in a size that would fit my broader body. Even the recent re-releases of the dresses were too small, so I had just resigned myself to them being an impossibility. But here it was, in my preferred colorway, professionally altered with the waist ties so you couldn't tell a thing.

So, I asked the seller some questions about the comfortable measurements it could now accomodate. Again, I was blown away to see mine should fit comfortably! And so, after a little back and forth, I bought the dress (along with the headbow) and waited for it to arrive with baited breath.

I'm happy to report that it arrived safe and sound, and we get to open Milky★Planet together!!

...POOF! A flurry of pink tissue paper delicately wrapping the dress and headbow! It felt a bit like unwrapping a birthday gift.

And... Wow, here we are. Milky★Planet Ribbon JSK and KC, in all their glory.

As cliche as it sounds, I'm genuinely speechless. Serendipitous is the only way I can describe the happiness this dress gives me. Even while doing this write-up, I find myself meandering over to my closet to stare at it with a dopey grin. While anyone would feel happy getting the lolita dress they want, I think there is a particularly delicate and malnourished sort of happiness that bigger, androgynous folks like me finally get to fulfill when something like this comes our way. I really never thought I would buy Angelic Pretty again, despite loving these celestial, melty, dreamy prints the most, because I resigned myself to not being able to fit. So then something like this comes up, and... Well, you get the idea. I'm overjoyed!

I wanted to give some detail shots on this JSK's border print, because it's just so vibrant and delectable. I'm glad my camera picked up the glitter in this print too, which is something I also noticed on Magical Etoile. There are multiple colors of glitter that are applied to corresponding parts of the print, catching the light in a fun, whimsical way. I'm happy they still add glitter 10 years later to these cotton prints!

The border has custom ice cream-themed lace that's soft and flouncy. I read that some of AP's recent pieces don't have custom lace, which is a real bummer. Not for this one, though! It's just like the earlier releases in this way.

One of my favorite things about printed pieces- especially those released in the 2010s when an iPhone 4's camera resolution was cutting edge- is how much detail you can only notice in-person. Case-in-point, the ice cream cottage on this print has a little upstairs window with the silhouette of a rabbit in frame!

Not to mention, Lyrical Bunny and Shyness Bear having a grand old time on the ferris wheel. Who wouldn't be having fun on a planet made of ice cream?

This print is one of the pinnacles of 2010s sweet for me, in all of its OTT glory. The planetary theme is especially appealing to me, like the print is just a snapshot of an ice cream paradise somewhere out in space, floating and happily inhabited by little animals. I remember being a tween and going to My-Lolita-Dress, hoping I could one day afford to buy the Milky★Planet replica that they carried at the time. Things were very different back then, but I find myself loving this print just the same as I did all those years ago!

Most of all, I am happy to report that it not only fits me, but can easily slip on and off my head and over my 48cm shoulders without the need for a zipper. I threw on the closest blouse and thigh highs I could find (Read: My programmer socks LOL) along with some accessories just to try it out, and felt adorable.

Sorry, no petticoat at this point in time. I should have a comfier one by the end of the month!

After that, I rummaged through my closet and accessories to make a more cohesive coord. Most of these things I bought pre-COVID and have just laid dormant, waiting for their moment to shine. The coord certainly could be improved upon, but I feel like it still came out so impossibly cute and sweet, just the way I like it!

Ahhh... What else is there to say besides how much I love this dress? I have no regrets having bought it (in fact, I'm under the impression I got a pretty good deal on it!), and am excited to announce I'll be attending my first real life comm meetup! I was recently accepted in the local comm here after building up the courage to reach out, and we'll be going to the museum in February. This is likely the only dress I'll have ready by then, so here's hoping it ends up being a lot of fun and I make lots of lolita friends!

Thank you so much for sharing this joy with me, if you did indeed read this far, and I hope you have a great new year like I am :D
